Badminton Season 2008 - 2009
Bristol mixed 1 were to have a tougher time this year with the promotion of Bristol 2 and our second team. Despite having 4 draws out of the first 6 matches we were still in the running to retain the trophy but losses to Bristol 1 and Beaufort park 1 away saw hopes slip away and we ended the season in 4th position. Only 5 points separated 1st and 4th spots.
Matches 10, Won 3, Drew 5, Lost 2. 6 players represented.
Bristol mixed 2 found Division 1 difficult this year. Although some good individual performances were seen, the team failed to register a point and will play Division 2 again next year.
Matches 10, Won 0, Drew 0, Lost 10.
Bristol mixed 3 continued on from the success of last year. Unfortunately 2 teams withdrew from division 3 but despite this the team managed to notch up an unassailable lead over the opposition. Unfortunately the final match saw points revoked having played a tied player but the team led by Jo had done enough to claim the Div 3 title and promotion for next season.
Matches 6, Won 4, Drew 1 Lost 1.
Bristol mixed 4 , having been promoted over the last 2 consecutive seasons, seemed to have not found their level yet. A great home performance with 4 wins and a draw gave us the buffer to see us run out division champions despite 2 close away losses. A fantastic effort once again and we look forward to seeing how the team perform in Division 3 next season.
Matches 10, Won 7 Drew 1, Lost 2. 9 players represented.
Bristol Mens 1 saw two heavy losses to Uphill before xmas blow any chances of silverware in this division. With a last match surprise loss to Bristol, the team finished fourth and will remain in Division 1.
Matches 10, Won 5, Lost 5. 8 players represented.
Bristol Mens 2 mirrored the mixed 2nd team . Unable to field a regular full side, and despite managing a great draw against Uphill, the team found it difficult to notch up sufficient points to avoid relegation. They finished bottom of the table and will play in division 2 next season.
Matches 10, Won 0 Drew 1 Lost 9,
The Bristol Ladies 1st team saw a great first half to the season with away draws against both Beaufort Park and Bristol. Unfortunately these teams were to pull away from us after the xmas break leaving us in a strong 3rd position, narrowly behind Bristol. Congratulations to the whole team but especially to Gill who after reluctantly stepping into the side has shown great improvement resulting in her winning half of her matches.
Matches 10, Won 6, Drew 2, Lost 2. 7 players represented.
The new Bristol Ladies 2nd team managed to do as expected and wipe aside all opposition on their way to lifting our third piece of silverware of the season . The team managed to remain undefeated with both Liz and Erica not losing a rubber all season. A great performance.
Matches 10, Won 10. 5 players represented.
Mid Glos A showed a fairly solid performance throughout the season with the only real contest being against St Lukes. A draw away saw the home tie decide the League title which unfortunately went heavily against us. The 3-15 scoreline would see the trophy go back to St Lukes.
Matches 8, Won 6, Drawn 1, Lost 1. 14 players represented.
Mid Glos B will remain in Division 2 next year after two losses to Rays field . Some strong performances saw the team overcome the other 3 teams in the division both home and away and with only one team being promoted, MGB have been spared the perennial yo-yo ing that we have witnessed over recent years.
Matches 8, Won 6, Lost 2.
The Mid Glos Mens team found the going surprisingly tough this season with our only wins coming against Tetbury which were both comfortable. Once again, twice as many players were needed to field the team throughout the course of the season with only Peter and John playing in all ties. Despite some good individual contributions, the team finished 4th and will remain in division 1 next year.
Matches 8, Won 2 Lost 6. 12 players represented.
In the George Rowden, we only entered the one team which was unfortunate to meet the eventual winners in the first round. A 1-3 loss would see the team entered into the Sid Moxon plate where we would see no further progression as we went out to Clevedon Feathers.
Following last years AGM our Badminton England Cup team managed a superb win over a strong Devon team at home resulting in a trip to the finals weekend at Milton Keynes where we finished 8th nationally. Some great competition was witnessed and the weekend away was enjoyed by players and supporters alike.
This seasons assault on the BE Cup was somewhat short-lived when a tough draw saw us against Severnside of Gloucester who arrived with 4 county first team players. However, the tie was close and very enjoyable and with a 3-6 scoreline, Severnside progress to the next round where we wish them luck.
In summary, despite having the tough 07-08 successes to follow we managed to run out Champions in 3 Divisions whilst consolidating our standing in the top Divisions in both the Bristol and Mid Glos Leagues. Of the 100 league matches played we won 49, drew 11 and lost 40.
Badminton Season 2007 - 2008
This season, for the first time in our history, we won the top prize in the Bristol Badminton League, the Mixed Doubles 1st Division. In fact Seven Vale are only the 7th team to ever win this presigious title. After clawing their way from the 4th Division 7 years ago, this is a tremendous accolade for local badminton.
However it is not only the club's top Mixed team that has done well in the Bristol League. The second Mixed team gained promotion to Division 1; the third mixed team won Division 4A; the fourth Mixed team won Division 5A; the second Men's team has won the Men's Division 2 championship and the Ladies team finished joint winners of the Ladies Division 1.
In the Mid Glos Badminton League our first team were also victorious in the Mixed Division 1.
